Sunday Stash Report, 9-7-08

One yard in this week, 7 & 11/12 yds. out.  YTD : 84 in, 103 & 1/6 out, 19 1/6 yds total busted.

I’ve had a busy week, but not so much quilting.  I did solve my border dilemma.  I purchased one yard of a gold fabric to use as an accent border or flange.  I searched my stash first, and did not have any that would match.  I was just a few inches shy of having enough of the green leftover to use it.  Wouldn’t ya know it?

I used a yard adding the first border to the darker 9P & stripe quilt.

I almost bought more than I needed, when buying the gold.  That’s just the sort of event to push me back off the wagon.  However, I found some resolve, and only bought just what I needed.  I calculated that my self control saved me at least $100.25.  I am going to start tracking this, and putting what I don’t spend in a savings.  A little incentive, besided having to be accountable here, is that I can put that money in the “fix up the kitchen” fund.  I am really wanting to do some remodeling in my kitchen. I need some new appliances, but I don’t want to change them til I can freshen up the cabinets, and change the countertop.  If I quit spending all my money on fabric, this project can take place sooner.  I can’t believe I’m showing y’all this, buy here is my kitchen.

I don’t want to change the floor or paint job.  I did the paint, and DH laid the floor, and I really like those two things.

I want a silestone counter in Kona Beige.  And I’m thinking that we might just paint the cabinets (or rather have them painted) in a dark brown.

Hopefully, sometime in the not so distant future, I will get to post “after pics”.

I also got new hair again…this is the “autumn” color.  I always just let my stylist do what he wants.  We did darker highlights, and even some almost black “low lights”.  This is much closer to my natural color.

Enjoy the rest of the your weekend!

  1. Love your hair color! I’d almost make a trip out there to get your guy to color line like that!

About that kitchen, PLEASE don’t paint your beautiful wood cabinets! Try changing the countertop first and see what you think. When we’re looking at houses, I won’t even consider a house with painted cabinets . . just don’t like them at all. Of course, about half the houses seem to have painted cabinets so it’s obvious some people like them. I do think your wood cabinets look pretty!

  2. Randi, LOVE the hair! And the floor looks terrific, too! 8)

About the cabinets, I agree with Judy that you might rethink painting the cabinets but for different reasons.

The existing color is very similar to the brown colors. So in the interest of costs in terms of labor and materials, you could try replacing the counters first and then possibly just the hardware on the cabinetry. I have found sometimes just some new handles and drawer pulls can really add that extra touch. 😉

    Just a thought.

  3. Oooo la la! Love the warmth of your new color! As for painting the cabinets, I can’t say anything. Before I got into quilting, I was a professional decorative painter. I painted everything! LOL

  4. BE CAREFUL! BE VERY VERY CAREFUL!!! The ‘might as well’ will get you in the kitchen! You know, WE MIGHT AS WELL do …. LOL
I would as agree that changing the counters and hardware makes a huge difference in a kitchen. You can paint the cabinets after installing new counters if it isn’t as much of a change for you.

  5. The hair color is delightful. I too have my old blend back and it feels so much better. Would think it was too red when you look at it but since I am / was a redhead or auburn as my Mother insisted…it suits my skin color still.
    Feel more bouncy …
You are so good keeping an account of what you use
I am doing my tax back from ’98 when I began quilting
as I am determined to see what I have spend….it is looking quite frightening.
I think…it will be interesting to check, but I think I have done better since I began shopping mainly overseas on the net.
Fabric is just so easy to buy!!

  6. Hi Randi,

    Lovely hair!!!

It’s wonderful to visit your blog again. It’s been a bit hectic at my end in the last few days! I love that quilt — the green/red really came together very nicely!!!

    Blessings.

  7. love your autumm hair colour Randi!
I had dark cabinets in this kitchen and decided to sand them down and varnish them since they are solid birch. They had been stained a dark brown and now they are that nice honey colour.

  8. Randi, I love your hair! The color and the cut are great.

Your kitchen is warm and inviting as it is, I like the countertop material/color you’ve chosen.
